cathy de monchaux
Cathy de Monchaux
London artist, nominated for the 1997 Turner Prize
Works in non traditional materials such as velvet, silk, leather, found objects, bandages. The textures often invite a closer look, beckon people in, and at close quarters the image is often repulsive.
The artist enjoys this opposing emotion, and often cultivates this in her work
Explicit and Chaste
Beautiful and Grotesque
Seductive and Repulsive
Body and Machine
Sex and Violence
Honour and Horror
'The erotic is a metaphor for anxiety. A lot of people's angst is based on how they relate to other human beings, and a lot of that is to do with attraction and repulsion.'
